(Senior) UI / 2D Artist (F/D/M)

Full-Time in Berlin, DE - Art

Overview

We looking for a (Senior) UI Artist to join our creative team. As a (Senior) UI Artist, you will play a key role in shaping the visual identity and user experience of our games. You will collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers to create intuitive, visually appealing UI that enhances gameplay and player engagement.

This role requires a mix of creativity, technical implementation, and problem-solving skills, as you will be responsible for both the creative and functional aspects of UI design—from initial mockups to final implementation in-engine. You'll be working primarily on an unreleased game.

This position is based in Berlin and therefore not suitable for candidates who are based outside of Berlin and cannot relocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • UI Art & Visual Design: Create high-quality UI assets, icons, and layouts that align with the game’s artistic direction and enhance player experience.
  • UI/UX Flow: Work closely with designers to define UI behaviour, information hierarchy, and player interactions—ensuring clarity and usability.
  • Prototyping & Mockups: Develop click-through prototypes to test and refine UI concepts before implementation.
  • Collaboration & Feedback: Engage in a high-feedback culture, working with designers, 3D artists, and engineers to iterate on UI elements and improve player experience.
  • Technical Implementation: Integrate UI assets into the game engine (Unity), adjusting and optimizing as needed based on player feedback and technical constraints.
  • 3D Asset Adaptation: Work with 3D artists to assemble, render, and adapt 3D assets (Blender) for UI icons, marketing bundles, and in-game elements.
  • LiveOps & Theming: Contribute to seasonal updates and live operations by creating themed UI decorations and visual enhancements.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve design gaps—anticipating player needs and improving UI functionality.
  • Documentation & Planning: Assist in vision documentation, feature breakdowns, and UI planning to ensure cohesive execution.

Qualifications & Skills

Must-Have:

  • Strong UI/UX design skills with a portfolio showcasing mobile game UI (menus, HUDs, icons, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator for UI asset creation.
  • Ability to problem-solve and think critically about player experience and usability.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills—comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Experience with Unity (or any other game engine) for UI implementation (adjusting layouts, animations, and interactions). * If you don't have this skill, an openness to learn is just as good! We'll teach you what you need to know.
  • Willingness to learn basic 3D rendering (Blender) for UI asset adaptation.

Nice-to-Have

If you have any of the following skills, we're doubly interested in hearing from you:

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling/rendering (Blender) for UI icons and marketing assets.
  • Experience with character art or 2D illustration to contribute to broader artistic feedback.
  • Knowledge of UI animation and motion design to enhance interactivity.
  • Understanding of casual mobile game aesthetics and player expectations.
